A “ Partitioning” battle

Drive sectors are something that rule data, whether local or in the cloud. The way that files are allocated is extremely important to the performance in streaming said data. There are a lot of partition formats available, ExFAT, FAT32, FAT16, EXT4, and NTFS are just notable mentions in a never ending sea of both open-source and proprietary storage solutions. More important than the partitions themselves is potentially the partition table itself. So in discussing file partition systems, a common theme will be technological reliance from one technology to another.

With that, NTFS is typically a file-system associated with the NT kernel, proprietary software created by Microsoft that originally ran on MS-DOS, is the most popular file allocation table on Earth. Given that most NTFS partitions are likely communicating with Windows, and the Windows operating system market share is 74 percent, it should be no surprise that this is the most popular file-system.

Or is it?

It should be noted that this market share is only valid when referring to desktop computing. So at home, I doubt that you haven’t noticed Windows is the most popular…
