I think because most people are " scared" or put off by Linux, but it is incredibly difficult to program on Windows given the non Unix-like nature of the operating system.

Even when you write Assembly, everything changes for Windows.

The answer is that most software engineers likely do not prefer MacBooks, they just need something that is good for programming. While MacBooks are not necessarily fantastic for them, you can get a package manager on one, you can actually use Bash and CLI's, source environments, that kind of thing without some WSL Microsoft hack. The real reason is because most people do not want to experiment with some open source community-driven operating system they do not understand and use our weird UI's, but they still want the terminal. Still, I really do not feel like this is most developers.

I have met plenty of MacOS developers before, and in all honesty I tend to prefer the work of those on Windows, but this is not always the case. Thing is it is a personal preference thing, and everyone is different, so it is hard to tell why someone would choose a Mac over Linux, but I often think it is because people are scared of trying to install an operating system.

Might sound like a basic task for a software engineers. But many of the software engineers do not really know anything about computers -- met plenty of them who do not even understand fundamental computing concepts.
