Oof to these comments girl.
A little aggressive, but I like your piece (and feel the anger is justified.)
As an Applied Scientist who practices Biology and a wealth of other social topics, I can tell you that it is widely accepted in Science that gender and sex are a separate thing. Part of the problem is that institutions, language, and culture are slow to reform with Science. Gender has nothing to do with sex and everything to do with genes. There are over 20,000 different chromosomes in your DNA and 2, (sometimes 3 in my case :)) are involved in your sex -- how could those binary choices reflect your self expression on thousands of different fronts?
Imagine therre's two closed doors with different outfits, hair styles, and whatever behind them, and a door is randomly selected to be opened. So then door B opens up, and the outfit is cool but it has one of those monster energy Kyle snap-backs.
You're not allowed to take the snap-back off because you're Kyle now, and that is your entire personality and you are not allowed to change it.
People do not understand that with these studies Man and Woman and Male and Female now mean different things. By the way, the study was done by the Trevor Project and they can also provide a wealth of information on other statistics related to LGBTQ++.
One thing the Trevor Project's statistics did not shed light on is actual civil rights. A common misconception in this country is that regardless of anything, everyone currently has civil rights -- because 1960 and now black people are in same bathroom so must be perfect right? Yeah, conservatism is just a brilliant guise either way to get away with sharing as few rights as possible with people that aren't straight white males. I don't know why we don't call it the party of active discrimination and cognative dissonance.
Fun fact: Transgender people can be
1. Denied legal adoption because they are transgender.
2. Denied housing because they are transgender.
3. Evicted because they are transgender.
And a wealth more basic civil rights that you would think transgender people have in Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Louisiana.
I implore anyone who is unaware of these things to check this out:
