thank you, this response re-established my rapidly dwindling faith in humanity.
It is indeed unfortunate that the colonial area has nearly ubiquitously propagated these ideas. The problem is we have a country full of people who think this is the default state of humanity and cannot be changed. Socialism to capitalism is a great example, as how many times have we heard the argument that capitalism is some sort of natural condition?
All of these ideas are relatively new, and most of them propagated in the medieval time period and the colonial period. How can we separate people from what they feel is natural? It is a monumental task, and I must admit this entire topic is one that frustrates me a lot. One prominent example I consider is that I often, and in fact in this article, point to evolution as an obvious talking point for why biology is extremely complicated and we are not enforced categories but individuals. The way I explained this above is that " one only needs to look at the taxonomy of hominids in order to grasp just how complex human evolution is."
To me, this seems like a pretty straightforward way to say " nobody knows, especially not you, and your version is proven wrong." However, there is a fundamental disconnect there and you might have noticed it; what if their entire worldview is built in opposition to evolution? In other words, if they are Christian and do not believe in scientifically proven evolution in the first place, then more Science that builds atop evolution is not going to change anyone's mind. This is what I mean by this fundamental disconnect, and it is very frustrating because it feels impossible to get through to people.
It certainly is odd how the two switch when we go from economy to libertarianism. All of the sudden, individualism becomes less important than collectivism. If you consider the two inline, capitalism/individualism and authoritarianism, all of the arguments for capitalism are arguments against authoritarianism -- yet somehow I am here, writing to battle a combination of the two. it is double think.
People said we couldn't have a black president a while back, seems things change. Seems they need to keep changing if we truly want a libertarian society.
