Why The Hatchback Accord Never Made Sense

Although Accord Hatches are one of my favorite cars on the market, their inception is absolutely nonsensical!

Introduction

Easily my favorite group of cars ever produced is the 1978–1989 Honda Accord Hatchbacks. I love the styling of these cars, and think they are leaps and bounds above what is typically seen in hatchbacks from its era, and even more-so the modern era.

(My two hatchback Accords, ’89 and ‘81.)

Unfortunately for fans of the hatchback Accord, however, 1989 would be the year of its demise. After the third generation, dubbed the “ 3geez” Accords, Honda cut the Accord hatchback out of its lineup — forever leaving fans of the cars in limbo missing its wonderful styling and classic usability. While it certainly is unfortunate that Honda doesn’t make these wonderful cars anymore, was there ever a great reason to make them in the first place?

So Honda does in fact make another car, and you might have heard of it. It is the best selling car of all time, and seems to be a pretty average daily driver for most people. I am of course talking about…
